Niko Niko’s 47 years of Greek cuisine comes to The Woodlands
Niko Niko’s is set to open the new The Woodlands location to the public on Monday, July 1, 2024. We got a preview of the new restaurant during their Thursday night “Give Back Dinner Feast,” in which one hundred percent of all dine-in and carry-out proceeds were donated to local nonprofit Interfaith of The Woodlands.

The Houston based, well established, small Greek chain has been around for 47 years with their much anticipated location in The Woodlands opening at 922 Lake Front Circle in the former Luby’s spot.
Owner Dimitri Fetokakis’s parents opened the first Niko Niko’s which was originally a fruit stand in Houston’s Montrose neighborhood in 1977. With Dimitri teaming up with two of his cousins to open the newest location, they are excited to be able to offer more seating and space than the original Montrose location with 400 seats available in their indoor dining space, outdoor patio and a private dining room. Niko Niko’s also brings their very first drive-thru and curbside area to fruition, offering convenient to-go Greek fare. In addition, there is a completely different entrance dedicated to-go orders to help speed up the ordering/pickup process.
After taking over the restaurant from his parents in 1994, Fetokakis is once again proving that despite being known for some of the best gyros in Houston, Niko Niko’s excels at so much more. One non-gyro menu highlight is the Niko’s Meze Platter, a great way to start with a sampling of Greek hors d’oeuvres.
The Greek Salads, while simple and classic, are not to be missed with a crisp bed of iceberg and romaine lettuce, fresh tomatoes, red onions, feta cheese, cucumbers, kalamata olives, capers, bell peppers, pepperoncini peppers and famous salad dressing. It’s exactly what a great Greek salad should be.
Niko Niko’s Chicken Avgolemono soup with Chicken, lemon, rice & vegetables was voted “Best in Houston” by Houston Press.
For quick lunches and dinners, go straight for their “sandwich” section of the menu, with over 20 different pitas, Phillys, burgers and even Po-boys. Highlights of course are the Gyro Sandwich – a mixture of chopped lamb & beef, spices in pita with tomato, onion and tzatziki sauce – or the Souvlaki Sandwich – tenderloin shish kebab in pita with tomato, bell pepper, onion and tzatziki sauce.
- Falafel Sandwich – Fried chickpea patties served in pita with lettuce, tomato, onion. Tahini, tzatziki and hot sauce on the side.
- Athenian Mushroom Burger* – A full half pound fresh, never frozen hand formed pure beef patties with a generous slice of feta cheese, with crisp lettuce, tomato, cooked onions, bell pepper, mushrooms and special sauce. Served with French fries.
- Bacon Kasseri Burger* – A full half pound fresh, never frozen hand formed pure beef patties with applewood bacon, melted Greek kasseri cheese, caramelized onions & mayo. Served with French fries.
Plates for bigger appetites, dinner or to share. Two superstar plates are The Greek Combo – Pastichio, moussaka, keftedes, spanakopita, tiropita & gyro slices. Greek salad, pita, yalandji dolma & tzatziki sauce on the side or the The Hercules Plate – We challenge you to finish it: gyro slices, souvlaki & chicken kebab, served with tomato, cooked onions, bell pepper, mushrooms, tzatziki, yalandji dolma & two pita breads.
More traditional Greek plates include:
- Baby Lamb Shank – Oven roasted with olive oil, oregano, garlic & lemon. Greek salad, pita bread & tzatziki sauce on the side.
- Souvlaki Plate – Double the meat of our famous shish kebab served with pita, tomato, onion, bell pepper, tzatziki sauce & yalandji dolma.
- Kreatopita- Flaky fillo stuffed with seasoned ground beef, garlic, onion, carrots, peas & cheese. Greek salad, pita bread & tzatziki on the side
- The Greek Combo – Pastichio, moussaka, keftedes, spanakopita, tiropita & gyro slices. Greek salad, pita, yalandji dolma & tzatziki sauce on the side.
- Lamb Kebob – Succulent lamb with onions, tomatoes, bell peppers & mushrooms. Greek salad, pita bread & tzatziki sauce on the side.
- Souzoukakia – Greek meatballs baked in tomato sauce, topped with feta. Greek salad, pita bread & tzatziki sauce on the side.
Save room for dessert! Bakery cases full of beautiful Greek desserts, and a case of colorful gelato, plus an entire area dedicated to their famous loukoumades, (Greek honey balls), available with several toppings.
Coffee? Yes, Niko Niko’s The Woodlands has a separate counter serving espresso and a full coffee shop menu. Freddo cappuccino and espresso. Almond milk is also available. Frappes, don’t miss out on their signature Baklava Frappé – Housemade baklava blended with espresso & milk. Topped with whipped cream. A one-of-a-kind-frappe.
After years of many requests from Niko Niko’s fans, they will open their fourth location on July 1. The new The Woodlands location is located off of I-45 just south of Research Forest and very close to The Woodlands Mall area. Congratulations to Niko Niko’s for 47 years of being a Houston tradition and staple for serving authentic Greek food. The Woodlands is ready!
