The Pavilion hosts Independence Eve Tradition Star-Spangled Salute with the Houston Symphony
On the evening of Monday, July 3, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion kicked off America’s birthday celebration with a host of patriotic favorites under the stars at the Star-Spangled Salute with the Houston Symphony. Sponsored by ExxonMobil, this free event has been an Independence Eve tradition at The Pavilion for over 30 seasons.

Pre-concert activities began at 6:30 p.m. in the North and South Plazas and featured photo opportunities with patriotic characters, a special art project, The Pavilion Partners Instrument Petting Zoo and sponsor activations. The Woodlands Show Chorus, an award winning women’s auditioned a cappella chorus group, provided pre-show entertainment in front of the Main Stage.
The Houston Symphony performed a variety of Americana favorites led by conductor Steven Reineke, one of the nation’s most sought-after pops conductors, composers and arrangers. The event’s featured vocalist was singer, songwriter and entertainer Jimmie Herrod. Herrod was a finalist on America’s Got Talent, earning the rare “Golden Buzzer” recognition from actress Sofia Vargara, and returned the following year on the AGT All-Stars series.
