The Woodlands Arts Council (TWAC) welcomes its summer exhibition, “Essence: People & Places,” featuring the vibrant work of visionary artist Jim N. Hill. On view from May 13 to August 7, 2025, this colorful and expressive collection invites viewers into a world of serene landscapes, cheerful moments, and reflections on the joy of everyday life.

An Opening Reception will be held on Thursday, June 5, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, inviting the public to meet the artist and experience the exhibition firsthand.

Curator Annette Palmer describes Hill’s work as “a charming perception of our surroundings,” with pieces that focus on the joy in small things, everyday moments, and simple pleasures. “Jim Hill’s delightful works fill our heart with happiness and light,” Palmer shares. “His observations of people and places portray the essence of a blissful life—they are calming, cheerful, and a joy to behold.”

Hill’s dynamic career spans several decades and continents. His technique combines acrylic, watercolor, collage, and pencil to create textured compositions that are both emotional and imaginative. Beginning his professional journey in 1965 and earning his MFA in 1978, Hill’s work has been exhibited in banks, universities, hotels, and private collections worldwide. His most recent work incorporates a spontaneous painting style, blending color and composition across dreamlike seascapes, landscapes, and abstract pieces.

“As a personal collector of three of Jim Hill’s vibrant paintings—and having commissioned him to create custom works for clients in my interior design business—I can speak firsthand to the joy and energy his art brings,” shared Nancy Charbonneau, TWAC’s Board Secretary. “Jim is masterful at evoking delight in the human experience through bold color and dynamic form, often inspired by daily living in creative locations around the world. Experiencing this exhibition at The Woodlands Arts Council is not just a testament to his vision; it represents an exciting and significant artistic opportunity for our community!”

The exhibition supports TWAC’s commitment to showcasing artists who inspire, invite to reflection, and connect with our community in meaningful ways.
