The Woodlands Methodist School announces New Head of School
The Woodlands Methodist School (TWMS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Chris Povich as its next Head of School. Dr. Povich will officially step into this role for the 2026-2027 school year, following the retirement of Mr. Ken West, current TWMS Head of School. Dr. Povich brings with him more than 30 years of experience in education and leadership to the TWMS community.

Dr. Povich has served in a variety of roles throughout his career, including as a teacher, campus principal, and most recently as Assistant Superintendent in Conroe ISD. His depth of experience, combined with a strong commitment to student development, made him a standout candidate in a comprehensive and prayerful search process.
“From the very beginning, it was clear that Dr. Povich not only brings exceptional leadership experience, but also a genuine heart for students and a passion for serving in a Christ-centered community,” said Rev. Drew Essen, Executive Pastor of The Woodlands Methodist Church. “We are confident he will lead our school with wisdom, care, and a deep sense of purpose.”
The Woodlands Methodist School, alongside The Woodlands Methodist Church, has long been committed to providing a high-quality, faith-based education that supports the academic, spiritual, emotional, and social growth of every student in grades Pre-K through 8th. Dr. Povich shares that vision and is eager to build upon the strong foundation already in place.
“Now is a time in my career when I’ve felt called back to the campus,” said Dr. Povich. “I’ve missed the daily interactions with students, teachers, and families. After much prayer and reflection, I truly believe this is the right time and the right place, and I feel incredibly blessed to join The Woodlands Methodist School.” Known for his relational leadership style, Dr. Povich is described as warm, thoughtful, and mission-driven; qualities that align closely with the values of TWMS and its broader church community.
“It’s an honor to be able to be a part of our children’s future. I see it as building a legacy for our students – especially with Christ-centered education here at TWMS. If we do that correctly, there’s uncounted generations that we can reach. It’s about doing right with others, doing right with our community, and doing right with Christ. That, to me, is where we can make a difference, and I don’t take my role for granted.”
As TWMS looks to the future, the school remains focused on equipping students to grow academically while developing strong character and a lasting faith.
“We believe Dr. Povich will be a tremendous blessing to our students, families, and staff,” Rev. Essen added. “We are excited for this next chapter and all that God has in store for our school.”
