By  |

In a delightful fusion of literature and technology, Ms. Lombardo’s third-grade class at The Woodlands Methodist School recently embarked on an enchanting virtual journey, bringing the beloved children’s classic Make Way for Ducklings to life. Partnering with the innovative Ms. Daughtery, the students took part in an engaging Google Lit Trip during their library specials time that transported them to the picturesque streets of Boston, as experienced through the eyes of the iconic ducklings.

The Google Lit Trip allowed students to explore the charming locations depicted in Robert McCloskey’s timeless story. From the bustling Public Garden to the historic Swan Boats, the virtual adventure provided a dynamic way to experience the world of Make Way for Ducklings. Through interactive maps and digital exploration, the children navigated the same paths the duck family took, gaining a firsthand look at the landmarks that make Boston a cherished backdrop in this classic tale.

The journey was not just about exploring physical locations; it was also an opportunity for students to delve into the story behind the book. They learned about Robert McCloskey, the author and illustrator whose love for Boston and its unique character is vividly captured in the narrative. The class discovered how McCloskey’s personal experiences and observations influenced the creation of the ducklings’ journey, enriching their understanding and appreciation of the story.

The success of this virtual field trip highlights the power of interactive learning. Ms. Daughtery’s creative approach in incorporating technology allowed students to engage with literature in a meaningful and memorable way. By immersing themselves in the world of Make Way for Ducklings, the third graders not only explored a classic story but also developed a deeper connection to the historical and cultural elements embedded within it.
