Before the concert, guests had the opportunity to step into an enchanted fairytale at The Pavilion’s Hats Off to Reading celebration in the Event Center. In partnership with Conroe Independent School District, the free festive literacy event encouraged early reading by offering various literacy-based activities such as games, making reading pointers, storytelling time and so much more. Children also had the opportunity to choose and take home a free book.
Pre-performance activities also included fairy-tale themed crafts and games, making music at the Instrument Petting Zoo and sponsor activations.
WSO Artistic Director Darryl Bayer returned to the podium to conduct the WSO and was joined by guest conductor Clarence Frank, who was also principal cellist. Female vocalist and rising star Vanessa Hunter made her WSO debut and performed alongside the orchestra for “Climb Every Mountain” from The Sound of Music, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz, and “When Will My Life Begin” from Tangled.
