Township dog parks remain closed due to uncertainty of risk

By  |

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS – The Center for Disease Control (CDC) is still learning about the coronavirus, and while it is known that it is primarily spreading from person-to-person, it appears that it can spread from people to animals in some situations as well.

Until more is learned about how this virus affects animals, the Township has its dog parks closed. The Township currently has dog parks at the following locations:

  • Bear Branch Park
  • Cattail Park
  • Terramont Park
  • Harpers Landing
  • Tamarac Park
  • Rob Fleming Park

The Township encourages residents to treat pets as any other human family members to protect them from a possible infection. The following guidelines are suggested for pet owners:

  • Do not let pets interact with people or other animals outside the household.
  • Keep cats indoors when possible to prevent them from interacting with other animals or people.
  • Walk dogs on a leash, maintaining at least 6 feet (2 meters) from other people and animals.
  • Avoid dog parks or public places where a large number of people and dogs gather.

Pet owners are encouraged to read the report from the CDC for more information. The health and safety of The Woodlands residents is the Township’s top priority at this time, and the patience of all pet owners in regards to reopening the dog parks is greatly appreciated.
