Visit The Woodlands Names 2022 Board of Directors and Officers

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Visit The Woodlands, the official destination marketing and management organization of The Woodlands, has announced its seven (7) member Board of Directors and Officers for 2022. 

Serving in a volunteer capacity, the Directors set policy and the annual budget as well as provide input on marketing and sales initiatives in promoting The Woodlands for meetings and leisure travel. Visit The Woodlands generates revenue for The Woodlands Township through the collection of hotel and sales tax.

The Board also elected its 2022 officers with Bruce Rieser as Chairman, John Anthony Brown as Vice Chairman and Fred Domenick as Secretary/ Treasurer. Directors include Dr. Shelley Sekula-Gibbs, Director for The Woodlands Township; Jenny Taylor, General Manager of Market Street; Cameron Klepac, Director of Marketing & Education at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion; and Monique Sharp, Chief Financial Officer and Interim President/ General Manager of The Woodlands Township. The Board also appointed Nick Wolda as President of Visit The Woodlands. 

“I look forward to serving another year with colleagues in these important economic development initiatives in The Woodlands,” said Chairman Rieser. “As the official destination marketing and management organization for The Woodlands Township and its businesses, Visit The Woodlands continues to play an integral role in business development which helps keep property taxes low for our residents and businesses in The Woodlands.” 

The Woodlands Township relies heavily on hotel tax from 14 properties and a sales tax which comprise nearly half of The Woodlands Township’s $132.8 million budget. Travel and tourism in The Woodlands generated over $6 million in hotel occupancy tax revenue for The Woodlands in 2021, a 43.7% increase from 2020. The Woodlands Township collected  $57,756,461  in sales tax in 2021, a 16.3%  increase over 2020.

“We have the capacity of 820,000+ hotel rooms in The Woodlands on an annual basis,” Chairman Rieser said. “This is a major generator of commerce through conventions, corporate meetings, leisure travel, concerts, sporting events and more.” 

President Nick Wolda noted, “After a successful 2019 and working our way through a pandemic, The Woodlands is rapidly ascending with increased interest as a premier destination for corporate and convention meetings and leisure travel. We look forward to the opportunities we have in front of us.” 

Visit The Woodlands will continue to build on the sales, marketing and tourism initiatives that have been introduced in recent years.

Wolda added, “The Woodlands is known around the globe as a wonderful place to live. Over the years, it has become known as a great place to visit. The job of Visit The Woodlands is to tell the world The Woodlands, with 2,250 hotel rooms, that we’re a wonderful place for corporate and convention meetings and leisure travel which includes entertainment, recreation, shopping and dining.”
