The Township’s Emergency Preparedness Event featured workshops and presentations from CenterPoint and The National Weather Service, as well as resources from various community organizations and volunteer groups. Attendees also had the opportunity to create personalized plans to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.
This event also was a great opportunity for younger residents to understand their role in preparedness and participate in engaging activities such as Hands Only CPR, making their own first aid kit, using a fire extinguisher and practice scenarios to simulate a 9-1-1 call, helping them become familiar with the types of questions they might encounter during an actual emergency. This year, a scavenger hunt was added for younger visitors and a prize was given to those who complete the hunt by visiting with key participants at the event and completing tasks associated with them.
Sponsors of the Emergency Preparedness event donated items for this year’s raffle, including a portable generator donated by Lowe’s, Red Cross first aid kits, HEB and America’s ER gift baskets, a fire extinguisher, and smoke detectors.
