Honoring History & Tradition

“Our goal is to remember our past by honoring those who served or assisted the colonies during the Revolutionary War. We strive to shape young minds by educating our youth about the Constitution and the individuals who developed American ideals and traditions,” said David Hamaker, President of the Freedom Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution and the Texas State Color Guard Commander.

John Powers, President of the South County 4th of July Committee, echoed this sentiment, stating, “We are honored to have the Sons of the American Revolution, Freedom Chapter present the Colors for this year’s 4th of July Parade. Their presence symbolizes patriotism, respect, and tradition, evoking a deep sense of pride and reinforcing the spirit of Independence Day.”

The Freedom Chapter actively supports youth education through awards programs, essay contests, and oration competitions, encouraging students to explore historical and patriotic themes. Prominent SAR members throughout history include sixteen U.S. Presidents, Senators, Representatives, and local business and community leaders. SAR members have served in every major American conflict since Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, with some earning the Medal of Honor, the highest U.S. military distinction.

Membership in the SAR connects individuals to America’s Revolutionary history through direct lineage and fosters community engagement by sharing the stories of the Founding Fathers and the creation of the United States of America. Members are connected to the history of the American Revolution by a direct means in tracing family lineage and provides opportunities to connect with others that share that same type of connection.

The South County Fourth of July Committee is a 501(c)(3) corporation funded by community donations and sponsorships, comprised of dedicated volunteers responsible for the annual 4th of July Parade in The Woodlands area. The parade was originally organized by The Woodlands Lions Club in the late 1970’s before the formation of The South County Fourth of July Committee in the early 1990’s. The Committee has provided over $98,000 in high school band scholarships.
