Armed Suspect shuts down main lanes of I-45 North Freeway near Cypresswood Dr
UPDATE 6/26 6:28pm – THE STANDOFF ON THE NORTH FREEWAY ENDS PEACEFULLY: “The standoff on the North Freeway and Cypresswood Drive has ended peacefully. Constable Deputies along with multiple law enforcement officers and first responders have safely apprehended the armed female suspect sitting on the main lanes of the freeway. Thank you to all the brave first responders who helped resolve the situation peacefully. The north and south bound lanes of the North Freeway are slowly reopening. UPDATE 6/26 5:32pm – INTERSTATE 45 STANDOFF SCENE REMAINS ACTIVE: “Ongoing situation on the North Freeway (I-45) remains active as multiple law enforcement agencies are on scene due to a standoff between deputies and an armed female suspect. Crisis Intervention Response Team (CIRT) members are in communication with her. A family member has also arrived on scene.”
“Northbound traffic is being diverted off I-45 at Cypresswood while southbound traffic is being diverted at the Grand Parkway. You can also use the Hardy Toll Road to get around the incident.” – Harris County Precinct 4 Constable
ORIGINAL 6/26 4:53pm – The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office shared an update on Thursday, June 26 at 3:53pm that an armed suspect had shut down the main lanes of the I-45 North freeway near Cypresswood.
“Heavy police presence near the North Freeway and Cypresswood Drive as deputies are in a standoff with an armed female suspect in the main lanes of the freeway. Crisis Intervention Response Team (CIRT) members are in communication with her. Constable Deputies have shut down the south bound feeder so traffic on the main lanes can counter flow off the freeway. Please continue to avoid the area.”
Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office first shared an update of the incident and armed suspect at 1:49pm.
