Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon announces Resignation
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office shared and confirmed today by email that District Attorney Brett Ligon has announced his resignation as Montgomery County District Attorney, effective immediately.
In his resignation letters to Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough and Governor Abbott (view below), Mr. Ligon reflected on the honor of serving the community in this capacity, stating, “Of all the roles I have held as an attorney, serving as District Attorney has been the most rewarding, as it has allowed me the privilege of making an immediate and meaningful difference in the lives of others.”

With his resignation, First Assistant District Attorney Mike Holley has submitted his application for appointment to serve as District Attorney. Pursuant to the Texas Constitution, Mr. Ligon will continue to serve as the holdover District Attorney until Governor Abbott appoints his successor.
“We are deeply grateful for Mr. Ligon’s 17 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Montgomery County as District Attorney, and we extend our best wishes to him in this next chapter,” shared Laura Smith, Chief of Communications of the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
