On April 3, 2024, Montgomery County Food Bank celebrated the groundbreaking of the highly anticipated renovation and expansion of the nonprofit’s existing facility located at 1 Food For Life Way, Conroe, Texas. During construction, Montgomery County Food Bank was committed to continuing operations in the current facility as renovations and additions were underway to be sure community needs were addressed throughout the process. Project development and construction was conducted by Howard Hughes, PGAL, and E.E. Reed Construction.
The renovation and almost 18,000 square foot expansion not only elevated the facility for those serving on site, but also increased occupancy of the Volunteer Center. An essential component of the project is the expanded Produce Rescue Center which allows the Food Bank to accept readily available fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables to process, package and distribute as a healthy source of food assistance. The expanded Food Storage and Volunteer Center spaces can also function as event space, and the reimagined facility features an elevated Welcome Center, an expanded parking lot, and increased safety measures for entering volunteers.

Jim Carman, President of the Houston Region for Howard Hughes, and current Chairman for the Montgomery County Food Bank Board of Directors, led the program and awards ceremony along with Kristine Marlow, President & CEO of Montgomery County Food Bank. Visionary Benefactors are Huntsman Corporation and Brynn & Peter Huntsman, in support of the new Welcome Center, and Woodforest National Bank and Woodforest Charitable Foundation in support of the new Volunteer Center. Howard Hughes, ExxonMobil, The Woodlands Methodist Church, Kroger, Nelda Luce Blair, Maris Blair & David Hall, Kelley and Jim Wolf, Jennifer & Scott Burns, Kristine & Garth Marlow, E.E. Reed Construction, and PGAL also received awards and recognition of their generous contributions and support. Congressman Dan Crenshaw was in attendance and presented a Congressional proclamation, commending the Montgomery County Food Bank for their commitment to strengthen Montgomery County with the new and expanded facility.
