Conroe Police: Major Crash in Grand Central Park on Feb. 17
On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at approximately 5:03 p.m., officers with the Conroe Police Department responded to a major crash involving a single pickup truck and a pedestrian at the intersection of Grand Village Blvd. and Town Park Drive.
Immediately following the collision, the driver of the pickup truck and several bystanders began life-saving measures on the pedestrian, 72-year-old Mrs. Kate Autry. Conroe Fire Department and EMS personnel arrived shortly thereafter and assumed medical care.
Despite their efforts, Mrs. Autry did not survive her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Conroe Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation into the crash. Preliminary findings indicate the pickup truck was traveling westbound in the 300 block of Grand Village Blvd. From the stop sign, the vehicle turned southbound onto Town Park Drive. Mrs. Autry was walking eastbound within the marked crosswalk on the south side of the intersection.
As the vehicle turned southbound, investigators are evaluating whether glare from the low western sun may have been a possible contributing factor in the collision. The investigation remains ongoing; however, at this time, there is no indication that excessive speed or reckless disregard for traffic control devices were factors in the crash.
Next of kin notification was made to immediate family members who arrived at the scene. Both the driver and pedestrian were Grand Central Park residents.
The Conroe Police Department and Chief Jon Buckholtz extend their sincere condolences and prayers to the family of Mrs. Autry and to all those affected by this tragic event.
