MCSO makes arrest in Fraudulent Vehicle Sale Investigation
The following press release, “MCSO makes arrest in Fraudulent Vehicle Sale Investigation”, was received from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office on May 4, 2026 at 1:11 p.m.
On May 1, 2026, The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Auto Theft Task Force, assisted by the East Patrol Command Crime Reduction Unit, K9 units, and Texas DPS, completed an interdiction operation involving the sale of a stolen vehicle with a fraudulent title.
Investigators were working an ongoing auto theft and fraud investigation in Montgomery County when they learned the suspect would be attempting a fraudulent sale of a vehicle on May 1. Following a traffic stop on the vehicle in question, the suspect, 27-year-old [male suspect], was taken into custody without incident.
At the time of his arrest, Davis was wearing a GPS ankle monitor issued by Harris County in connection with prior felony charges. [The suspect] was transported to the Montgomery County Jail, where he was charged with Forgery of a Government Document.
This arrest and vehicle recovery are part of a larger, multi-faceted fraud and auto theft investigation in Montgomery County.
Citizens are encouraged to use caution when purchasing vehicles online. The public should always verify that the person selling the vehicle is the same person listed on the title. Check the vehicle VIN number with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles for authenticity. Always be suspicious of individuals selling a vehicle via Facebook or other social media sites with only a cell phone number as contact. Have a private entity conduct a vehicle history search such as Carfax, AutoCheck, and VINAudit. Customers should buy from reputable dealerships whenever possible, and always trust your instincts. If a deal feels too good to be true, it likely is.
The Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force is partially funded and trained by the State of Texas Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority.
