Cooper’s Varsity Cross Country Preview

By  |

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Although this year will be different in many ways than previous years, The John Cooper School’s Cross Country Teams are ready and looking forward to the new season.

VARSITY BOYS

“This season is quite different without a Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) Championship meet at the end of the season,” said Head Coach George Dohner. “One thing that hasn’t changed is the great attitudes and hard work these boys bring to practice every day. We have a great mixture of talented upperclassmen to go along with some young outstanding runners. By the end of the season we should be a very strong team.”

“All-SPC senior Will McDermott has had a great summer of training and is ready for a breakout season,” added Dohner. “Senior Zac Winton and juniors Vishnu Swaminathan and Drew Wilkerson will play a key role in the success of the team. Sophomores Nathan Seamans, Theo Nemeth, and Kase Melodick will provide great depth to our team. Freshmen Grey Mendenhall is a great addition to the varsity team.”

VARSITY GIRLS

This year, six of the top seven runners from last year’s 4th place SPC team have returned to run for the girls’ team. “The girls have been working hard over the summer and are ready for another great season. Since there is no SPC championship this season, the goal is to run personal bests and to beat the South Zone teams,” said Dohner.
