Arts Festival in The Woodlands adds New Literary Component to its Schedule
The iconic Fidelity Investments The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival is celebrating its 18th year of showcasing fine art by adding its new “Books on the Green.” A celebration of the art of words, Books on the Green is a literary festival within the larger festival. Held at the same time, in the same location and with the same ticket-holders, Books on the Green will feature the works of local, regional, and national authors, and will include readings and signings and immersive activities and games. The festival ranks among the top fine arts festivals in the country and takes place April 14-16. Last year, the event drew more than 23,000 people over the weekend, and this coming year, the festival is expanding to include Friday.
The independent, neighborhood bookshop Village Books is presenting “Books on the Green.” The shop is hosting an impressive line-up of authors, including Katherine Center (The Bodyguard), Kimberly Garza (The Last Karankawas), Katharine McGee (the American Royals series), Meagan Church (The Last Carolina Girl), Ashley Winstead (The Last Husband), Michael Hurd (Thursday Night Lights), Rachel Magee (The Beach Escape), Montgomery County Poet Laureate Dede Fox, and Alda Dobbs (Barefoot Dreams of Petra Luna). In addition, Books on the Green will feature librarians from the Montgomery County Memorial Library System (MCMLS) who will create library cards for patrons, recommend books, and offer fun art-themed activities—such as bookmark origami and Tiny Art projects—for kids and the kids-at-heart. On Friday afternoon, Books on the Green will also offer an author panel for individuals looking for direction on publishing their own works.
“Adding a literary component to Fidelity Investments The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival was a natural progression for this event—which was just named Best Event in The Woodlands by residents. The Woodlands is a community of art enthusiasts, writers and readers, and we look forward to welcoming them to the festival,” said Jenny Carattini-Wright, executive director of The Woodlands Arts Council, the nonprofit organization that produces the event.

Our author line-up has something for everyone: romance, history, poetry, mystery, adventure, and literary fiction. The featured books will be available for purchase at Books on the Green and can be signed by the authors following their presentations,” said Teresa Kenney, owner of Village Books.
“The Montgomery County Memorial Library System (MCMLS) is excited to be a part of Books on the Green,” MCMLS Library Director Rhea Young said. “Collaborating with the literary community—surrounded by readers, authors, and artists—allows us to share our joy of reading and literacy.”
