Brad Bailey Headshot

1. Share your background. What originally brought you to The Woodlands?

My wife Kim is from The Woodlands. Her parents and extended family moved here in the 1970s. They were some of the first residents in Grogan’s Mill.

I grew up an hour south of The Woodlands in Nassau Bay. Some of my earliest memories of The Woodlands involve coming here in the 90’s for concerts at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

When Kim got pregnant in 2015, we were living in Austin. We went to her first doctor’s appointment there and heard the baby’s heartbeat. In an instant our world changed. We left that appointment and drove straight to The Woodlands to tell her parents the happy news.

On that drive we decided to move to The Woodlands. Kim knew from experience how wonderful it is growing up here. We both understood then and now that there is no better place to raise a family than right here in The Woodlands, Texas!

2. Why do you enjoy living (and working, if applicable) in The Woodlands?

The best thing about The Woodlands is the people who live and work here. Our neighbors are some of our best friends. Our postal carrier makes our children’s birthday cakes. I’m on a first name basis with my favorite waiter at Goode Co. Tex-Mex, the lady who works the drive through window at Dosey Doe Coffee at 6am and the cashiers at my local HEB. Woodlands residents and those who work here are all uniquely different but combine to make this the best community to live.

My family and I also love attending The Woodlands Methodist Church. Attending worship on Sundays and bible study during the week is truly the highlight of my week.

My family loves eating at the restaurants, walking on the pathways, playing at the parks, attending concerts at the Pavilion and spending time in our village centers. I also just took my kids to their first high school football game – The Woodlands High School verse College Park. Friday Night Lights in The Woodlands is such a great thing. There’s always something new to discover here!

Finally, the beauty of The Woodlands is something I treasure. We live in a forest and that’s special and something that we need to maintain. I work in Houston. When I hit the Woodlands Parkway flyover coming home and enter our livable forest, I get a sense of peace. This is a special place with such charm. Some people jokingly call this “the bubble” but I’m proud to call it home.

3. How have you served and/or how do you currently serve and contribute to our community?

My family and I are active members of The Woodlands Methodist Church and participate in mid-week bible studies and contribute to missions and special projects there. We also contribute to local charities and organizations and I’m an Advisory Board Member of Preserve The Woodlands. Giving back to our community is very important to our family.

As a lifelong Houstonian it’s also important to give back to our greater Houston area. I’ve served on Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo committees, I am on the Board of Directors of the Associated Builders & Contractors of Texas, I am a Founding Advisor for the Texas Public Policy Foundation Right on Work Policy Center and I was a City Council Member in the City of Nassau Bay, TX from 2008 – 2013.

4. What motivates you to run for The Woodlands Township Board of Directors?

I love The Woodlands and want to give back to this wonderful community that has given so much to me and my family.

In 2008 I was elected to be a City Council Member in my hometown of Nassau Bay, TX. One of the first things we did was study The Woodlands live, work, play model that George Mitchell invented and perfected. We wanted to shape the City of Nassau Bay to be more like The Woodlands.

After serving as a council member of a city that tried to replicate The Woodlands, I found it very odd that some would push to go the other direction. Which is why I became so involved in the Incorporation debate last year. I’ve lived in both forms of government and the township model is hands down better.

I had no plans to serve as a Woodlands Township Board Director. But when Congressman Kevin Brady called me this summer and encouraged me to run, I gave it serious thought. After consultation with my wife, family and co-workers I decided it was time to get off the sidelines and give back to my community in this new way.

5. What are 5 things that you want voters to know about you (personal, points, views, experience, etc.)?

  • I’m a proud father of 3 and am married to Kim, a Woodlands native
  • I went to Kilgore College and was the “Voice of the Rangerettes” before graduating from Ole Miss
  • I’m a previous business owner and current VP at S&B Engineers and Constructors, a billion-dollar company with over 8,000 employees
  • I served as a City Council member in my hometown of Nassau Bay, TX from 2008 – 2013
  • I’m very proud of my endorsements, which include:
    • Congressman Kevin Brady
    • Congressman Dan Crenshaw
    • Montgomery County Constable Ryan Gable
    • The United Firefighters of The Woodlands
    • Alpha and Omega Mounted Security Patrol
    • 3 previous Township Chairmen – Nelda Blair, Bruce Tough and Dr. Ed Robb
    • Montgomery County Commissioner, Pct. 3 James Noack
    • Houston Association of Realtors – Montgomery County
    • Greater Houston Associated Builders and Contractors
    • Roy Bailey – President Trump’s 2020 National Finance Chair
    • Township Future
    • Preserve The Woodlands Candidate Committee

6. If elected, what would be your top 3 priorities as a Township Board of Director? How would you work to impact/shape the future of The Woodlands?

1. Ensure the Public Safety of The Woodlands.

Crime has increased in and around our Township. These crimes range from theft at the mall, to car break-ins to more serious issues dealing with fentanyl. We must work hand in hand with law enforcement to deter criminals and make sure our officers have every tool needed to stop criminals from infiltrating our community and our schools.

As a Township Director, I will make public safety my priority and work hard to repair the fractured relationships between our current township board and our law enforcement community. It’s critically important that we work hand in hand with all our law enforcement leaders to keep our community safe.  Which is why I am proud to have been endorsed by Montgomery County Precinct #3 Constable Ryan Gable and the Alpha & Omega Mounted Security Patrol.

The Woodlands Fire Department also needs appropriate funding and resources to keep our community safe. For far too long our fire department has been overlooked and underfunded. Like the police, we need to make sure our fire department has all the tools they need to keep our community safe.  I am proud to have been endorsed by The United Firefighters of The Woodlands.

2. Manage Growth Responsibly.

Our population is surging as more families and employers recognize what makes The Woodlands great and want to become a part of it. While local growth can be a positive, it’s crucial that it be managed in a responsible manner. With increased population comes mobility issues, greater demands on schools, and the potential for a rise in crime. Finding a balance between growth and preserving our way of life is a top priority of mine.

I have long-standing relationships with (and endorsements from) many of the key stakeholders and community leaders that our Township works with. Whether it’s mobility, growth, public safety or policy issues, I can work with the necessary individuals to advocate on behalf of The Woodlands residents to ensure that as our population increases the quality of life our residents enjoy will not have to decrease.

3. Recruit new businesses while preserving and restoring what makes the woodland special.

While The Woodlands remains the best place to live, work, and raise a family, we ended up losing top office space tenants due to COVID. As a Township Board member, one of my top priorities will be to actively recruit new businesses and corporate headquarters to The Woodlands. This will require our Township board to dedicate more resources to our economic development team so we can attract new businesses to our community.

Refilling our commercial space with new corporate and retail tenants will bring us some fresh energy while diversifying our tax base. I will use my professional expertise in marketing and communications for a billion-dollar company with 8,000+ employees to help us successfully market and promote The Woodlands to a variety of audiences.

While recruiting new business is important, our aging village centers also need to be redeveloped in a responsible way. Grogan’s Mill and Panther Creek Village Centers are over 50% unoccupied and there are many repairs needed. It is important that redevelopment of these centers is in line with the original vision of George Mitchell as well as the wants and needs of our residents. This includes maintaining our beautiful green space and preserving the forest that we all call home.

7. Would you like to share any other words or message to The Woodlands community?

My personal, government and professional experience will have me ready to hit the ground running on Day #1 to work for you.

I will also lean on the experience and talents of The Woodlands residents. We have an engaged and vibrant community and I want to build on that.

I’m ready to hear your input on how the Township board can better serve your needs. Please send me your thoughts on this important matter at brad@bradbaileycampaign.com.
