Celebrating God’s Creativity: Computer Science Week at TWCA

By  |

This week, The Woodlands Christian Academy’s Computer Science program illuminated the incredible potential of coding as part of the international Computer Science Education Week by participating in Hour of Code. Hour of Code is a global movement designed to demystify Computer Science and show that anyone can learn the basics of coding. This initiative breaks down the complexity of programming into accessible, enjoyable experiences for students of all ages.

In Mrs. Gonzales’ lower school STEM class, high school students from Computer Science club encouraged 2nd grade students to explore coding through poetry and showed 4th grade students how to code using specific Hour of Code activities within Minecraft.

Mrs. Harder and Mr. Smothers’ middle school STEM classes benefited from the club members’ expertise in Minecraft programming, while high school students in Mr. Rokohl’s math, Mr. Brown’s engineering, and Mr. Westerduin’s Computer Science classes tackled challenging cybersecurity projects.

The Hour of Code activities that spanned all ages were not just teaching technical skills but nurturing a perspective that sees technology as a divine gift. At The Woodlands Christian Academy, we believe that technology is a magnificent tool for exploring the creativity God has instilled in human minds. Our students are learning that every line of code, every problem solved, and every innovative solution can be a way of reflecting God’s extraordinary creativity. TWCA is preparing students to use technology not just as a tool, but as a means of glorifying God and serving others with excellence and purpose.

TWCA and Mr. Westerduin will also launch TWCA’s first Girls Who Code club meeting this Friday, empowering young women in technology.
