Church Leaders nationwide host webinar on ‘Lamenting. Listening. Leading: How the Church Can Respond.’

The Woodlands United Methodist Church partnered with churches nationwide to host a webinar in response to the tragic death of George Floyd and the ensuing events around the country.

On Monday, June 1, Dr. Ed Robb, Senior Pastor of The Woodlands UMC, reached out to Adam Hamilton with Church of The Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas and Olu Brown with Impact Church in Atlanta, Georgia to organize the webinar and discussion panel.

The webinar was hosted by The Woodlands UMC and Impact Church of Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday, June 4 at 4:00 p.m. CDT on “Lamenting. Listening. Leading: How the Church Can Respond.” The event featured a panel of church leaders from around the country that came together to discuss how the church can respond as we seek justice and peace. The panel included Olu Brown, Impact Church in Atlanta, Georgia; Ed Robb, The Woodlands United Methodist Church; Adam Hamilton, Church of the Resurrection; Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II; Lo Alaman, Spoken Word Poet; Dee Williamston, Great Plains Salina – Hayes District Superintendent; F. Willis Johnson, Living Tree Church; and Tori Butler, Good Hope Union UMC.

The free webinar had about 1000 registered for the online event which was open to the public as well as churches nationwide.  The recording of the webinar is now available to view here and on The Woodlands UMC website at https://thewoodlandsumc.org/.

Following the webinar, The Woodlands UMC, together with Impact Church of The Woodlands, led an outdoor Prayer Gathering for Justice and for Peace at 7:00 p.m. at The Woodlands UMC Fairway. Read more here
