Community Christian Legal Aid Announces Grant from Texas Bar Foundation
THE WOODLANDS, TX – Community Christian Legal Aid (“CCLA”), a legal aid organization founded in 2019 to provide legal services to low-income neighbors in the Greater Houston area, received a grant from the Texas Bar Foundation to partially fund the Paralegal Support Project.
CCLA created the Paralegal Support Project with the goal of hiring a bilingual paralegal in order to better serve the legal needs of individuals whose primary language is Spanish.
Deborah Hubbs, President of Community Christian Legal Aid, said “We are grateful for the continued support of the Texas Bar Foundation and their acknowledgement in meaningful ways of the civil legal needs in our community. Our Spanish-speaking neighbors have been underserved due in part to the language barrier that often exists between them and our volunteer attorneys. We are hopeful that through the Texas Bar Foundation’s support of our organization, we will be able to support the Spanish speaking low-income neighbors who need wise counsel in seeking justice, especially in family law issues.”
Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $23 million in grants to law related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation’s largest charitably funded bar foundation.
CCLA was founded in 2019 in order that every low-income neighbor in our community has affordable access to legal assistance including the hope of the Gospel. A free 45 minute consultation with an attorney is provided to individuals with family law, immigration, guardianship, wills or financial matters for individuals who make up to 250% above the federal poverty level.
