Eat Local: Duck Donuts “sprinkles happiness” and offers made-to-order cake donuts in Spring

By  |

Amanda Perkins opened the first Duck Donuts in Texas, right here in Spring on Rayford Road near the Grand Parkway on March 29, 2025.

Duck Donuts, a franchise that first opened in 2007 in the beach resort towns of Duck and Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, was created to offer vacationers a warm, delicious, made-to-order donut experience. Headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, the company began franchising in 2013 and prides itself on “sprinkling happiness” through its unique in-store experience, exceptional customer service, and a duckzillion donut combinations.

As one of the fastest-growing donut franchise companies, Duck Donuts now has more than 135 locally owned and operated shops across 26 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and international locations in the Bahamas, Canada, Curaçao, Egypt, Pakistan, the Philippines, Qatar, and Thailand.

THE NAME

Duck Donuts got its name from the charming, family-friendly Outer Banks town of Duck, North Carolina. Their fun and lovable donut mascot, Ollie the “duckbassador,” represents the brand’s coastal roots.

“Since the day Duck Donuts was founded, Ollie has watched families enjoy making memories and creating delicious donuts. Ollie is a nod to our beach town roots, which can be found in all our shops around the world.”

THE INSPIRATION

When Amanda Perkins brought Duck Donuts to Spring, she filled a unique niche in the community; there was nothing quite like it before. A resident of Benders Landing for the past five years, Amanda and her daughter Hailey have built strong roots and meaningful connections in the area they proudly call home.

Amanda is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served nearly a decade, with assignments that included overseas tours and roles at the Pentagon, Marine Corps Special Operations Command, and test and evaluation units. After completing her military service in 2017, she shifted her focus to motherhood and the next chapter of her civilian life.

Her professional journey includes roles in HR, information security, and risk management at both startups and Fortune 500 companies. In 2020, Amanda purchased her first home in Benders Landing as a single mom and has remained an active, engaged member of the community. She and Hailey are proud Gold Sponsors of Ann Snyder Elementary and the Conroe Grizzly Dazzlers.

Today, Amanda works in Accessibility Program Management for a major tech company, helping ensure digital platforms are inclusive and accessible for people with disabilities. Her commitment to equity and opportunity extends from the workplace into the heart of Spring, TX.
