By  |

Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County partnered with The John Cooper School for the 26th year to begin construction on a new home for a family in need, providing students with valuable hands-on experience while making a positive impact in the community. This long-standing collaboration has enriched the lives of Cooper students and numerous families for over two decades.

The start of the 26th Habitat Build kicked off on Saturday, September 13 on-campus in The John Cooper School Lower School parking lot. Volunteers, Parents, and Cooper Upper School students aged 14+ had the opportunity to come together as a community. This house project will be one of the last four homes being built in Habitat for Humanity’s Cedar Creek community in Conroe, before starting to build in the new Marble Creek in Magnolia.

Since 1999, The John Cooper School has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to fund and build a home for a family each year. The annual tradition has become a hallmark of the school’s commitment to service, instilling a sense of responsibility, empathy, and leadership in students from a young age.

Samir Muhith, Habitat Project Faculty Sponsor, helped coordinate and supervise the on-campus project where students began framing the walls of the house. He shared with Hello Woodlands about the excitement of the Upper School students beginning work on the 26th house, a student driven project, and how grateful The John Cooper School is to have the opportunity to serve the community.

Through this initiative, students raise a portion of the necessary funding and contribute to the physical construction of a new home each year, working closely with Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County. Upper School students work on the home’s construction, Middle School students paint and add personal touches, and Lower School students participate by planting flowers and landscaping.
