Hands-Only CPR trainings start this February

By  |

THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS – The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch will launch a series of Hands-Only CPR trainings on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 10 a.m. at The Woodlands Fire Department Station 7, 26722 Kuykendahl Road. These trainings are offered free of charge in partnership with The Woodlands Fire Department, American Heart Association and Montgomery County Hospital District. Training events commence in February and conclude in April.

“We are excited to present these training events and the Village Challenge,” said Marian Leck, director of law enforcement services. “When we learned that Montgomery County has a bystander intervention rate that is below the national average, we saw an important opportunity to raise awareness of the lifesaving value of Hands-Only CPR. The more people who are empowered with this knowledge, the more lives that can be saved.”

In 2008, The American Heart Association released new CPR guidelines to include the option of Hands-Only CPR (without breath interventions). If performed immediately, Hands-Only CPR can significantly increase the chance of survival for a cardiac arrest victim.

In addition to learning life-saving skills at the training events, each person trained by October 15, 2018, will earn a point for their village. The top three villages will receive a cash donation for their scholarship fund provided by Woodlands North Houston Heart Center.

The training events are drop-in and will take only about 20 minutes. Training events will also include blood pressure checks and a raffle to be a “Doctor for a Day” by CHI St. Luke’s Hospital, crime prevention information presented by the Township Neighborhood Watch, nutrition and heart health information presented by the American Heart Association, and information from the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
