Houston Ballet dazzles The Pavilion’s Main Stage with George Balanchine’s Jewels
The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion welcomed the talented dancers of Houston Ballet to the Main Stage on Friday, May 5, 2023, as they presented George Balanchine’s Jewels, three distinct works creating a unified evening of dance, often hailed as the first plotless full-length ballet.

Sponsored by The Wortham Foundation, the program featured three acts that each embodied their namesake jewel through the unique musical stylings of their corresponding composer. The French-evocative Emeralds set to Fauré, the delightfully witty Rubies set to Stravinsky, and the illustrious Diamonds set to Tchaikovsky completed an evening of glitz and glamour.
Pre-show entertainment in the North Plaza was provided by Boni’s Dance & Performing Arts Studio and other activities included photo opportunities, an arts & crafts booth, themed games, an instrument petting zoo and sponsor activations.
Mezzanine and lawn seating are free for all performing arts events at The Pavilion and tickets for most performances are $25 for orchestra seating. Families are also encouraged to enhance their performing arts experience with Mini Pavilion Maestros, a free and exciting program that makes the arts both fun and accessible for kids of all ages.
