THE WOODLANDS, TX – Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is paying tribute to local EMS teams during National EMS Week, May 17 – 23.

EMS Week 3
Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital celebrates National EMS Week, May 17 – 23.

“We want the community to know how grateful we are for the partnerships we have with our local EMS professionals,” said Debbie Sukin, CEO, Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital, Regional Senior Vice President, Houston Methodist. “Since opening the doors of our hospital in 2017, we’ve valued the unparalleled EMS service in our community and have appreciated the opportunity to team up and educate residents about key lifesaving measures such as the signs and symptoms of having a stroke.”

Now, two months into the coronavirus pandemic, Houston Methodist The Woodlands and area EMS are working together to spread a critical message – it’s safe to call 911 and go the emergency room.

“In Montgomery County, the number of people dying at home is up 30% from this time last year, and in many cases, it’s because they chose not to go to the hospital out of fear of catching COVID-19. Residents can rest assured that it is safe to seek medical care when they are experiencing an emergency; and they should not delay calling 911,” added Sukin. “From the ambulance ride to the care we provide inside our hospital, safety is always the top priority.”

To show appreciation for a great partnership, Houston Methodist The Woodlands kicked off National EMS Week early by hosting a grab-and-go luncheon on Friday, May 15. The emergency department staff gave each EMS provider a yard sign that lets their neighbors know – they are heroes caring for the community. This week, the hospital continues treating EMS members with refreshments and creative snacks to thank them for their teamwork and continuous efforts to provide top-notch emergency care.

And, as EMS teams drive onto the hospital campus, they are greeted by festive signage that sums of the sentiment of Houston Methodist The Woodlands. It boldly states, “EMS, We Salute You!”

Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital opened in June 2017 as the eighth hospital in the Houston Methodist system. This 187-bed, 470,000-square-foot, full-service, acute care hospital offers many of the same services as our flagship hospital in the Texas Medical Center. Also on the hospital campus, located at the intersection of I-45 and TX 242, are two medical office buildings, which include a breast care center, cancer center & infusion center, heart and vascular services, neurology, orthopedics & sports medicine, rehabilitation services, wellness services, an outpatient laboratory and several other multi-specialty physician practices.

In September 2019, Houston Methodist The Woodlands broke ground on a $250-million expansion project that will add 100 beds, focused on medical/surgical and women’s services, and 10 operating rooms. It will also include the expansion of the endoscopy center, heart center, emergency center and diagnostic imaging department to include an enhanced neuro-diagnostic and interventional center. Completion is scheduled for early 2022.
