Houston Methodist The Woodlands hosts Cooking Demonstration in honor of World Diabetes Day

By  |

In honor of World Diabetes Day, November 14, Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital hosted a Diabetes Educational Cooking Demonstration in the Teaching Kitchen located at the Cook Family Health Education and Learning (HEAL).

The Cook Family Health Education and Learning (HEAL) at Houston Methodist is centered on the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and their families. The three pillars of HEAL are prevention, navigation and rejuvenation. From cooking classes and fitness activities to support groups, mindfulness education and salon services, HEAL supports healing and enhances well-being by focusing on new approaches to healthier lifestyles.

During the the Diabetes Educational Cooking Demonstration, Houston Methodist The Woodlands’ Food & Nutrition Services Director, Dietitian, and Chef together showed patients and guests how to prepare a Vegetable, Quinoa & Chicken Salad – including an orange herb marinade for the chicken and citrus balsamic vinaigrette for the salad – and Frozen Yogurt Fruit Pops. The class learned more about Diabetes Nutrition, following a well balanced diet, new health information on how carbs are important and provide our brains with energy, plus attendees had the opportunity to ask questions.
