Judge Keough signs Disaster Declaration for Montgomery County in response to ongoing flooding

On Wednesday, January 24 at 4:56 p.m. Judge Mark Keough announced that he has signed a Disaster Declaration for Montgomery County in response to the ongoing flooding. Read his following statement below:

“Due to the ongoing flooding and the potential for additional rainfall I have signed a Disaster Declaration for Montgomery County. This declaration has activated all available resources throughout the county to address the immediate needs.

An Areal Flood Warning is in effect for most of Montgomery County until at least midnight tonight. A Flood Watch remains in effect through 12 PM tomorrow. We do expect additional rounds of rain tonight. The sheer number of roads with high water or closed is too vast to continue to list individually.”

“Please DO NOT drive in high water. The county’s first responders have been assisting motorists all day who have ignored barricades and water over the roads and proceeded to drive through the water.

The San Jacinto River Authority is currently releasing water from the Lake Conroe Dam at 16,525 CFS with the lake currently at 203.75 ft. We have been informed that releases will continue as inflows into the lake from our northern continues has not yet crested.

Please monitor the weather tonight and tomorrow and heed any warnings issued by the NWS or our local officials. My office continues to monitor the situation across the county and we are active in the emergency operations center.”

The Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management shared the following update at 7:34 p.m. on the disaster declaration and flooding in the area:

Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough has issued a disaster declaration in response to the ongoing flooding.

Currently the San Jacinto River Authority is releasing storm water from the Lake Conroe Dam. Currently at 203.77 ft where full pool is 201.00 ft. The currently release is at 16,500 CFS.

An Aerial Flood Warning is in effect through midnight for the majority of Montgomery County.

A flood watch is in effect through 12pm tomorrow for the entirety of Montgomery County.

Please do NOT drive through high water or go around barricades. First responders have been actively rescuing motorist who have ignored these warnings.

We do expect periods of additional heavy rains through the region so additional flooding is likely.

The sheer number of roadways with high water or closed is too numerous to update consistently. Because of this please remember to turn around don’t drown.
