THE WOODLANDS, TX – Members of the Margaret Montgomery Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) recently made 749 origami flowers for patients at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital as part of its service project. The hospital’s Food and Nutrition Services will deliver the flowers on the patient meal trays this spring.

“We so appreciate the time and effort that went into this sweet and thoughtful service project,” said Amy Ginder, director of Volunteer Services at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital. “It is the personal touches like these flowers that are the most meaningful to our patients. Sometimes the smallest gesture can demonstrate the most care and we are always striving to provide that type of Houston Methodist experience for our patients.”

The Margaret Montgomery Chapter of the NSDAR is a non-profit, non-political volunteer service organization for women with the mission of promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

“The Margaret Montgomery Chapter tries to complete a ‘Service in Seconds’ project at each monthly meeting,” shared Penny Schwartzkopf, Margaret Montgomery Chapter NSDAR member and service project participant. “We have a variety of ages in our chapter and we are always looking for projects that the whole group can participate in. This was a great project that we could work on at the meeting as well several members continued to create origami flowers at home. We were happy to be able to contribute to brightening the patients day at the hospital!”

All members of NSDAR can trace their lineage back to an ancestor who aided the cause of American Independence. The Service to America initiative encourages members to become involved in community service to discover the rewards of volunteerism, to demonstrate the positive volunteer opportunities associated with DAR members to others, and to help make their local communities a better, more friendly place. Learn more about the Margaret Montgomery Chapter of the NSDAR at www.texasdar.org/chapters/MargaretMontgomery.
