LSC-Montgomery to Honor 2021 Graduates in 25th Anniversary Commencement Ceremony
CONROE, TX – Lone Star College-Montgomery (LSC-Montgomery) will celebrate its 2021 graduation ceremony with a virtual You Tube Premier event to be held on Friday, May 14th at 6:00 pm. Graduates, along with their families, guests, and LSC-Montgomery faculty and staff, are invited to join the live-stream broadcast of the Commencement ceremony. The pre-recorded event will feature messages from Lone Star College Chancellor Dr. Steven Head, Lone Star College-Montgomery College President Dr. Rebecca Riley, and 2021 graduate Ashley Byers, who was selected as the Class of 2021 student speaker.
Ashley Byers began studying at Lone Star College a decade ago. In 2002 she received a Dental Assistant Certification and in 2018 decide to return to pursue a college degree and will be graduating with an Associate of Arts degree.
Ashley has lived in The Woodlands since 2005 with her husband and children. She works full time as the Manager of Marketing & Outreach for The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership. She has received certificates in Economic Development Marketing & Attraction by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) and Basic Economic Development by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service. She is a 2015 graduate of Leadership Montgomery County.
An active member of The Woodlands community, Ashley has volunteered with numerous community non-profit organizations including the Interfaith Young Professionals Organization and serves on Interfaith of The Woodlands Development Committee. She is also on the Visit the Woodlands Marketing Committee and the PR subcommittee for Memorial Hermann’s In the Pink of Health Committee. She is an advocate for The Woodlands Chapter of Ainsley’s Angels, a national non-profit organization that aims to build awareness about the special needs community and gives individuals with disabilities an opportunity to experience endurance sports. She enjoys long distance endurance sports herself and is a two-time IRONMAN Texas finisher and ultra-runner, having completed two 100-mile distance trail runs.
“Juggling college classes while being a mom, wife, working full time, volunteering with other community causes and training for long distance endurance races has had its challenges. With perseverance, courage, patience, and hard work, I made it to my first college finish line after being a ten-year student.” After receiving her degree, Ashley has ambitions to transfer to Stephen F. Austin State University to obtain a degree in marketing and communications.
Ashley joins over 1300 students as members of the 26th graduating class of Lone Star College-Montgomery. As the college celebrates its 25th anniversary academic year, it recognizes the tremendous growth the college has seen. “In 1995, the campus opened as Montgomery College,” recalls President Rebecca Riley, “and was then the second campus in the North Harris-Montgomery County College District. Our first graduating class, the class of ’96, had six students. We now have an enrollment 16,000 students, we offer multiple degree and certificate programs, and have become the largest provider of higher education opportunities in our area. We have so much to celebrate and are very excited to celebrate with our graduates. The ceremony may be virtual, but the pride and excitement we feel is very real”
