Memorial Hermann achieves Leading-Edge Heart Failure Milestone in The Woodlands

By  |

The Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center recently achieved a milestone of implanting their 100th CardioMEMS™ HF System. CardioMEMS is used in heart failure patients to provide pulmonary artery (PA) pressure remote monitoring using a small sensor, permanently implanted via a heart catheterization procedure. This sensor measures changes in pulmonary artery pressure, detecting fluid retention in the lungs caused by worsening heart failure. Patient-initiated sensor readings are wirelessly transmitted to a secure website for clinicians to access and review. Directly monitoring PA pressure not only alerts you if a patient’s heart failure is worsening, it also allows physicians to intervene earlier, adjusting medication or making other treatment changes, often before a patient experiences any symptoms.
