Heart program now recognized as a Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute
THE WOODLANDS, TX – Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center announced that its award-winning heart program has been designated a Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute, a distinction that highlights the campus’s commitment to offering advanced healthcare services in the Greater Houston area.
The heart designation is the latest recognition for Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, which also recently opened a comprehensive neuroscience center and attained Level II Trauma Center verification and Level III designation for its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
To be considered a Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute, a program must provide the full spectrum of heart care, from medical therapy to advanced heart surgery. It must also offer advanced technology, expert physicians, and research, all while demonstrating leadership in clinical quality and patient safety.

Like its sister Institutes in the Texas Medical Center, Memorial City and Southwest, Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute-The Woodlands offers a wide range of treatments, including diagnostic testing, cardiac and thoracic surgery, vascular and endovascular surgery, cardiac electrophysiology for complex arrhythmia and atrial fibrillation (AFib), transradial catheterization, use of right and left percutaneous ventricular assist devices, and pediatric cardiology to name a few.
A first for the Institute will transpire in the coming weeks when affiliated physicians employ a newly approved FDA Left Atrial Appendage Closure device, which is designed to help patients living with AFib. Benefits could include a reduced risk of stroke and discontinued long-term use of blood thinners.
Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute-The Woodlands treats 11,000 patients annually and was one of only 203 facilities nationwide to receive the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR ACTION Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2018, recognizing its commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.
