Montgomery County: Hard Freeze and Hazardous Conditions Expected

By  |

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office shared a Winter Weather Alert and following updates on January 21, 2025 stating that conditions are expected to worsen tonight into tomorrow, January 22.

2:08 p.m. Update: Conditions to Worsen Tonight into Tomorrow!

Tonight’s Forecast:

  • Expect another cold night with a hard freeze.
  • Temperatures will plunge to 19°F with wind chills below 10°F.
  • Roads will not have time to thaw or dry today before refreezing overnight.

Road Safety Reminder: When recent snowmelt meets freezing temperatures, black ice can form. It’s nearly invisible and especially dangerous. While black ice is more common at night, it often lingers into the morning commute.

What to Do:

  • Stay off the roads today and tomorrow morning if possible.
  • Use extreme caution when driving; don’t let black ice sneak up on you.
  • Icy, dangerous conditions are expected on most roadways and overpasses overnight during this hard freeze.

You’ve probably seen road signs advising that bridges freeze before roads, but do you know why? Having open air underneath the bridge means the cold air surrounds the bridge both above and below.

If there’s even the chance that a bridge might be frozen, SLOW DOWN! And do it before you cross the bridge — changing speed on ice is dangerous.
