January 28, 2023 – Arbor Day Tree Giveaway – The 47th Annual Arbor Day Tree Giveaway, held at Rob Fleming Park from 9:00 am to noon, encourages residents to plant free seedlings in their yards, community open spaces and forest preserves. This year, 12 varieties of native seedlings will be available, including both canopy and understory trees. This is a FREE event for The Woodlands residents. Learn more

January 28, 2023 – Fruit & Nut Tree Sale – The Montgomery County Master Gardener Association is hosting the annual Fruit & Nut Tree Sale at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office – Montgomery County, 9020 Airport Rd, Conroe, TX 77303, from 8:00 am to noon. Learn More

January 29, March 26, and May 28, 2023 – Forest Therapy – Forest Therapy is a slow and relaxed stroll of approximate 3-hours and a distance no longer than 1-mile, through a natural environment. During the walk, Gabriela, Forest Therapy Guide, will help you awaken your senses and slow down to be present, away from your worries, and connect to nature. Forest Therapy meets at the Texas TreeVentures Pavilion, and the walk is from 8:00 to 11:00 am. Ages 5+. Learn More

February 4, 2023 – Invasive Species Workshop – Help free our native plant and tree species from the invasives that are growing on our pathways and in green spaces. Attend a training to learn about species causing the most problems and then sign up to volunteer with the Invasives Task Force to help remove them in this free workshop. Registration is required. The event is from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm at The Rob Fleming Recreation Center. Learn More

February 4, 2023 and March 11, 2023 – Backyard Composting Class – Learn from Montgomery County Master Gardeners the simple, cost-effective way to enrich your lawn and garden with compost made in your own backyard at the Backyard Composting Class. Compost is the best way to improve soil’s health and ability to hold moisture while managing yard trimmings at the same time. Registration is not required for this FREE class. Both classes are from 10:00 to 11:30 am at the Township’s outdoor composting classroom. Learn More

February 10, 2023 – Valentine’s Plant and Seed Swap – Meet in the Community Engagement Area downstairs in the Lone Star College – Tomball Community Library to swap small plants or cuttings for propagation and exchange knowledge on plant care! Attendees can bring plants and cuttings to swap and there will also be a free table to leave plants, seeds, or cuttings for people just getting started. There will be holiday-themed refreshments and a rollout of the library’s new seed library for the event! No registration is required. The swap starts at 3:00 pm. Learn More

 

 

February 11, 2023 Free Recycle Day – Free Recycle Day will be held at Montgomery County Precinct 3 Residential Recycling Center, 1122 Pruitt Road, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm for Montgomery County residents. Learn More

February 11, 2023 – Spring Vegetable Gardening Class: Growing Epic Tomatoes– Craig LeHoullier, tomato growing expert, author, heirloom tomato guru, and the person who named the “Cherokee Purple” tomato, will share his lifetime hands-on tomato growing knowledge in this exciting class. The class is free, but registration is required. The online class is from 9:00 am to noon and will not be recorded. Learn More

February 11, 2023 – Community Tree Planting Event – Lend a hand at the 9th Annual Community Tree Planting Event! Volunteers are invited to join the fun planting thousands of native trees and shrubs as part of The Township’s ongoing reforestation efforts. The year’s event will be held at the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center and Dog Park, 6535 Creekside Forest Drive, from 8 a.m. to noon. Registration is required. Learn More

February 18, 2023 – Muddy Trails 5K – The Muddy Trails 5K chip-timed course winds through the beautiful 1,800-acre George Mitchell Nature Preserve and ends with a festive post-race party featuring live zydeco music and the Muddy Bowl Crawfish Cook-Off. The 5K race is open to runners of all abilities and recommended for participants ages 10 and older. Learn More

February 25, 2023 – Conroe Arbor Day Event – The Conroe Arbor Day Event features FREE trees for all Conroe residents, while supplies last, from 8:30 am to noon at Founder’s Plaza in historic downtown Conroe. The Montgomery County Master Gardeners will be on hand to provide gardening tips and advice, and the Texas A&M Forest Service will be available to talk about their forest programs in Montgomery County. Their mascot, Woodsy the Owl, is scheduled to appear. Learn More

February 25-26, 2023 – Wilderness First Aid Course – This 16-hour Wilderness First Aid Course is an educational resource for those involved in activities that take them beyond the boundaries of traditional urban emergency medical serves. Hikers, backpackers, kayakers, canoeists, fisherman, and victims of natural disaster often find themselves in situations where definitive medical care is delayed more than 30-minutes. This course is approved by the American Camping Association, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, and various youth groups and youth camps. Two-year certification issued upon successful completion of class. The course is held at the Rob Fleming Recreation Center Tree Houses on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Ages 14+. March 4, 2023 – [CANCELLED] Drip Irrigation Workshop – Drip Irrigation is a much better way to irrigate flowerbeds and garden areas of your landscape! Your plants get water right where they need it – at the roots. The advantages are many, and installation is easier than you may think. The Drip Irrigation Workshop is FREE, but registration is required. The workshop will be held at The Woodlands Emergency Training Center from 8:30 to 11:00 am. Learn More

March 4, 2023 – Shenandoah Arbor Day Celebration – The City of Shenandoah and the Shenandoah Civic Club are again co-sponsoring the celebration of Arbor Day and the city’s designation as a Tree City. The event is an opportunity to speak to your city staff, community volunteers and neighbors while getting ready for the gardening season. There will be free trees, seeds such as milkweeds and annual flowering plants, children’s crafts, and even a plant exchange if you have something to share! The event will be held at the city’s public works building, 29955 I45, Shenandoah, TX 77381, from 9:00 am to noon. Learn More

March 11, 2023 Creekwood Fishing Derby – Bring your fishing poles and the Township will provide the bait at the 16th Annual Creekwood Fishing Derby. Prizes awarded for longest, heaviest, and smallest fish caught. T-Shirts are given on first come, first served basis. The derby is free and sponsored by The Woodlands Professional Firefighters Association. No registration required. All Ages. March 11, 2023 – Introduction to Orienteering – Orienteering, the art and sport of navigating with a compass, is a timeless skill. Learn the basics and practice your skills using the orienteering points located in the George Mitchell Nature Preserve. All materials will be provided. Participants will receive a compass after the class to continue their adventures. Introduction to Orienteering will be held at the Rob Fleming Recreation Center from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Ages 9+. March 18, 2023 – Introduction to Wilderness First Aid – Introduction to Wilderness First Aid is a free presentation that will contrast the differences between Urban First Aid and the First Aid required when definitive care is more than 30-minutes away because of severe weather or remote location. This is not a certification course. The course is held from 9:00 to 11:00 am at the Rob Fleming Recreation Center. Ages 14+. Learn More

March 18, 2023 – Soggy Doggy Swim Day – Calling all dog lovers! Bring your dog for a splash in the pond, doggy crafts, trick competitions, and fetching games! All pets must be on a least while not swimming and up-to-date on shots. Pre-registration required. Fee: $10 per dog; $5 each additional dog. Soggy Doggy Swim Day is at Creekwood Park from 10 am to noon. Learn More

March 19, 2023 and April 16, 2023 – Fly Casting Group Lesson – This class will cover basic casting fundamentals and provide a groundwork for understanding fly rods and reels, basic types, and other components of fly fishing. The Fly Casting Group Lesson is held at Rob Fleming Park Pond from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Ages 14+. Learn More

March 25, 2023 – Earth Day GreenUp – Team up with family and friends to help keep our community beautiful while enjoying the outdoors! Remove litter from pathways, greenbelts and waterways and be part of the Great American Clean up that improves the health and beauty of our environment at the 12th annual community litter cleanup day, Earth Day GreenUp! March 29, 2023 – Walking Book Club – Exercise your mind and body by taking book discussion on the move! The Walking Book Club meets at the South Regional Library on Lake Robbins Drive at 11:00 am, walks the Waterway together, then returns to the library for light refreshments. March 30, 2023 – National Take a Walk in the Park Day – Take a walk with your favorite naturalists along a leafy, shaded trail to celebrate National Take a Walk in the Park Day at Burroughs Park, 9738 Hufsmith Rd, Tomball, TX 77375, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Be sure to wear outdoor appropriate clothing, closed-toe shoes, and bring a refillable water bottle. April 1, 2023 – Woodland Babies Scavenger Hunt – Search for and learn about cute baby wild animals found along our area’s forested trails using a trail map, scavenger hunt, and educational signage. April 13, 2023 – Lil’ Naturalist – Earth Day Everyday – You’re never too young to learn about the natural world around you! Join naturalists at Mercer Botanic Gardens from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. to learn about being a global citizen and our responsibility to keep our Earth clean and healthy for all life – people and animals. April 15, 2023 – Spring Home Landscape Gardening Class: Trees in the Home Landscape – Michael Merritt, Texas A&M Urban and Community Forester, will share his expertise about Texas Trees in the home landscape from 9:00 – 11:00 am in this free webinar. Learn More

April 22, 2023 – Bioblitz – Celebrate Earth Day with the Woodlands Township. Use the free iNaturalist app to explore your backyard or local park to discover and log observations of plants, animals, insects, and more. All Ages. Learn More

April 29, 2023 – Great Texas Birding Classic – The Great Texas Birding Classic is an annual competition held across Texas to determine which team can identify and count the most birds during a specific window of time. This is the biggest birdwatching tournament in the state and The Woodlands Township has registered a team in the ‘Big Sit’ category. All ages are invited to watch for birds at the George Mitchell Nature Preserve from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. Learn More

April 29, 2023 – Sterling Ridge Village Association Fishing Festival – The 8th Annual Sterling Ridge Village Association Fishing Festival will be held at Pepperdale Park, 17 N. Pentenwell Cir., from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Kids and adults gather together and spend a morning fishing and enjoying nature. There will be awards for biggest fish and most fish caught in three age groups. Learn More

April 29-30, 2023 – Camp Terramont – Get away without leaving The Woodlands at Camp Terramont! Camp out and enjoy crafts, games and outdoor activities. May 1, 8, 15, 20, 2023 – Bridge to Advanced First Aid – The Bridge to Advanced First Aid four-class course will build on what you learned in Wilderness First Aid, expanding your knowledge of patient evacuation, long-term care and dealing with ‘’red flag’’ issues. Using realistic based scenarios, you will work on small groups to practice skills and leadership when confronted with an emergency in an austere environment. Participants must have a current Wilderness First Aid certification. The course is held at the Rob Fleming Recreation Center Tree Houses. Ages 14+. Learn More

May 6, 2023 – Pollinator and Bug Scavenger Hunt – Search for and learn about common pollinators and bugs using a trail map, scavenger hunt, and educational signage. The Pollinator and Bug Scavenger Hunt starts at 11:00 a.m. at the Rob Fleming Recreation Center Tree House #1. Ages 4+. Learn More

May 13, 2023 – Earth Day Festival – Celebrate Earth Day with The Woodlands Township! Enjoy live entertainment, games, and meet local organizations that celebrate Earth Day, every day, in our community. Visit interactive displays featuring local wildlife, protecting our waterways, recycling right, going green in your own home, and much more! FREE – All ages welcome.
