The nonprofit of the month is the Gladd Foundation, a local non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping send kids with bleeding disorders to camp while educating and furthering the medical research to try to control and eradicate bleeding disorders. Read our interview below with Velvet Dove, Founder and CEO of Gladd Foundation.
THE INTERVIEW
Tell us about the Gladd Foundation. What is the organization’s story?
We are dedicated to helping send kids with bleeding disorders to camp, providing them with a transformative experience.
How did the Gladd Foundation start?
The foundation was created in honor of my father, who had a bleeding disorder. My son and three nephews, who also have bleeding disorders, attended these camps and became counselors. Now, I’m paying it forward to help other kids experience the joy of camp.
What is your mission and why?
Our mission is to provide kids with bleeding disorders the chance to enjoy the camp experience and just be kids. Camp helps them build confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging in a supportive community.
Who and where do you serve?
We serve kids with bleeding disorders such as hemophilia and Von Willebrand Disease.
We support 49 camps across the U.S.
What programs and services do you offer?
Scholarships to send kids with bleeding disorders to camp.
Advocacy and support for families, schools, and healthcare providers.
What makes this organization unique?
We focus solely on children with bleeding disorders. 100% of proceeds support our mission, and we are entirely volunteer-run.
How can the community get involved, volunteer, and support this organization?
Spread awareness, Volunteer, and Donate or help fundraise.
Upcoming Fundraisers:
