Tax Free Weekend in Texas is August 11-13
It’s that time again! As we near the beginning of school, students and parents across Texas are preparing for Tax Free Weekend to save on clothing and school supplies. The Sales Tax Holiday known as “Tax Free Weekend” this year is on Friday, August 11 through Sunday, August 13.
According to the Texas comptroller’s website, “the law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced less than $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.” A complete list of items and details is also available.
Qualifying items are available to be sold tax-free in-store, online, by telephone or mail. Texas shoppers can also use layaway plans, where applicable, to take advantage of the sales tax holiday.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reminded residents that “with the start of school just around the corner, shopping areas will be bustling…and criminals will be watching. We urge all of our citizens and guests to exercise safe shopping practices. Be sure to lock your vehicle doors, take expensive or valuable items with you, and hide items of value that you can’t take with you by placing them in a locked trunk, when possible. Common targets of car burglars include laptop computers, backpacks, purses, GPS units, cell phones, and handguns (if you are a handgun licensee the best place to keep you gun is in a holster – on your body!). Help us by making your vehicle unappealing to burglars and we will help you by providing additional patrol units in all of our shopping areas keeping an eye out for you and your families.”
