The 2020 Woodlands Marathon Traffic Impact with Maps & Timeline

THE WOODLANDS, TX – The annual Woodlands Marathon and Half Marathon will be held March 7 and will impact traffic in and around the race courses from 6:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

This is the 9th annual event with an anticipated 8,000 registered participants. This is the same route as the last three years.

Plan ahead and use alternate routes, as the streets along the race routes will have closures and contra-flow traffic in order to accommodate runners.

Due to the route of the run courses, the following roads will be impacted:

  • Lake Robbins: Eastbound and Westbound
  • Grogan’s Mill: Southbound and Northbound
  • Research Forest Drive: Eastbound
  • Kuykendahl Road: Southbound and Northbound
  • Lake Woodlands Drive: Eastbound
  • South Millbend: Southbound
  • Sawdust: Westbound (Outside Lane)
  • Glenloch: Northbound
  • Tanglebrush: Eastbound
  • South PantherCreek: Eastbound
  • Flintridge: Eastbound
  • Woodlands Parkway: Eastbound (Outside Lane)
  • Macbeth Way: Eastbound
  • Ashlane Way: Eastbound
  • Branch Crossing: Northbound and Southbound
  • Terramont: Southbound
  • Ken Lakes Drive: Southbound and Northbound
  • Alden Bridge: Eastbound
  • Bay Branch: Eastbound

Eastbound Lake Woodlands Drive will have all lanes closed between 6:30 – 10:00 a.m. from Kuykendahl to Lake Front Circle. One lane will open for eastbound traffic approximately 10:00 a.m.

Lake Woodlands westbound will have contra flow. Vehicles will be traveling east and west from Lake Front Circle will be traveling both directions – east and west.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Traffic will be impacted from 6:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
  • PLAN AHEAD and USE ALTERNATE ROUTES around the race course.
  • Expect 15-30 minute delays if you cross into the designated center area of the racecourse.
  • When leaving your neighborhood from inside the race course onto Flintridge or Lake Woodlands Drive, expect delays.
  • Add 10-15 extra for your travel times.
  • Map your own drive route prior to race day.
  • Email or call with questions if you are unsure.

RECOMMENDED COMMUTE AND DRIVING PRACTICES DURING THE EVENT:

  • Only residential traffic is recommended through and around the racecourse during the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
  • Businesses and neighborhoods will be accessible during the race.
  • Travel routes that are OPEN:
    • Northbound:
      • Kuykendahl 9:30 am-1:30 p.m.
      • Woodloch Forest 7:00 – 11:30 a.m.
      • FM 2978 7:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
      • I-45 7:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
    • Southbound
      • Woodloch Forest 7:00 – 11:30 a.m.
      • FM 2978 7:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
      • I-45 7:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
    • Westbound
      • Research Forest Drive 7:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
      • Lake Woodlands Drive (westbound) 7:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
    • Eastbound
      • HWY 242 7:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Open
      • Woodlands Parkway 7:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Open
