By  |

The Woodlands® is commemorating its 50th Anniversary this year, celebrating the vision, innovation, and excellence as an award-winning, nationally recognized master planned community. In honor of this milestone, the installation of a new art mural, “The Beauty of Nature in The Woodlands”, began today, Saturday, September 28.

The new art mural will be located south of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, adjacent to the Millennium sculpture, and along The Woodlands Waterway.

Featured visual artists, Marlo Saucedo and Amy Malkan, were selected from approximately 40 applicants from The Woodlands and surrounding areas through an open call from The Woodlands Arts Council. During the “students’ day” and kick off of the installation, aspiring art students from The Woodlands High School and The Woodlands College Park High School assisted the featured artists in the painting of the outdoor mural. The finished mural will include native, natural elements of The Woodlands in its design, honoring the community’s five decades of history.

The total painting process will take about three non-consecutive days to complete and the new mural will be unveiled during the weeklong anniversary celebration taking place Monday through Saturday, October 14-19, signifying the importance and impact of art in the community.
