The Woodlands Arts Council exhibits “Across The Pond” by Annette Palmer
THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Woodlands Arts Council is excited to open its second exhibition in its recently opened Grogan’s Mill location. “Across The Pond” by The Woodlands artist Annette Palmer explores the environments of her native Scotland and her home in Texas and is presented by IRCODE.
“My artistic journey, which begins on the untamed shores of Scotland, leads to the sublime lakes and ponds in The Woodlands area. These contemporary abstract paintings conjure up emotion through the exploration of experimental textures, collage, pattern and elements of mixed media,” Palmer states.
A resident in The Woodlands area for 18 years, Palmer has previously exhibited her work in the region as well as further afield, being part of many international collections worldwide. Painting being her primary joy, Palmer also wears other hats, which include arts/culture writer and exhibition curator.
“Across The Pond” takes us on a journey through the pandemic world and into a renewed sense of hope and reconnection with the community. Palmer’s use of collage elements applied to the energies of her background connects us on a personal level. The use of handwritten letters and other fragments of vintage ephemera, together with metallic elements, brings an all-around sense of old meets new and chaos meets calm.
“Flocks of birds in flight symbolizing relationships, friendships, and communities stretch across the open skies, their feathers floating on the surface of the water, tokens of a new renaissance, reminding us to realize the moment and revel in its gift,” states Palmer. “We are small in the universe yet connected and integral to something much bigger.”
“Annette pours such a deep range of emotion into her art, and we are excited to help share her story through IRCODE,” said Matty Beckerman, CEO of IRCODE. IRCODE (Image Retrieval Code) is changing how people engage with the world around them. Their platform allows creators, brands, and individuals to easily attach information to any image or real-world object, transforming it into an interactive digital experience on a user’s smartphone. Through scanning and registering their work, creators can directly engage audiences with the information that they choose. Simply put, IRCODE is the QR-code of the future. Learn more at ircode.com.
Work will be available for sale with a donated percentage going to The Woodlands Arts Council. Please join us to Meet The Artist on Friday March 1st, between 6pm and 9pm, with an artist talk at 6:30pm.
