Please Keep Streets Clear on Trash Service Day
Waste Management has reported increased difficulty servicing carts due to blocked access to streets with personal and contractor vehicles.

Parking on the street is sometimes necessary, especially now that many of us are home during the day. However, to ensure uninterrupted waste service for you and your neighbors, please avoid parking on the street on your trash day.

If a service or contractor truck is due to visit your home on your trash day, please reschedule them for a day other than your service day. If rescheduling is not an option, notify the company and ask that they park in your driveway or in an area where they are not obstructing passage. If blocking the street on your service day is unavoidable, please contact Waste Management at 1-800-800-5804 and alert them before your next service day.

What to Do If You Encounter One of These While Out and About
Most people don’t realize there are otters in our area and assume they are beavers. River otters are fascinating creatures that are semi-aquatic and spend about two-thirds of their time on land and the other third in the water. Their webbed feet, powerful tails and third eyelid, which acts like goggles, make them strong swimmers.

The diet is mainly aquatic organisms including fish, turtles, frogs, and crayfish, but they’ve also been known to eat small mammals like squirrels and mice. River otters are good communicators and have a variety of vocalizations including a scream that can be heard up to a mile and a half away!

If you need assistance with an injured, orphaned or displaced animal, please call The Woodlands Wildlife Resource Center at 713-468-TWRC (8972). They will walk you through the process to keep both you and the animal safe. You can also visit their website at www.twrcwildlifecenter.org.
