The Woodlands Township hosts annual 3R Recycling Drive-thru

By  |

The 3R Recycling Drive-thru was held on Saturday, December 9 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Sterling Ridge Park and Ride. By highlighting the importance of recycling in our community, the event offered a free opportunity to recycle select items that cannot be recycled in curbside carts.

Volunteers participated in the event to help provide a full-service drive-thru, removed items from residents’ car back seats and trunks. Accepted items included batteries, block styrofoam, disposable razors and packaging, eyeglasses, sunglasses and cases, light bulbs, oral care products, plastic bags and film, small electronics, snack and drink pouches, textiles, election signs and stakes, and bikes in any condition.

Bikes were collected and refurbished in partnership with Bike The Woodlands Coalition and Recycled Cycles, which will then be donated back to the community.

Originally scheduled for Saturday, November 11, 2023, the event was postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions and moved to the date of Saturday, December 9 at Sterling Ridge Park and Ride. Thankfully, the rescheduled event and improved weather conditions allowed residents to drive through and recycle items. The event was sponsored by Waste Management, The Woodlands G.R.E.E.N. and Woodlands Water.

The Woodlands Township reminded residents that items collected at the 3R Recycling Drive-thru, as mentioned above, cannot be put in your curbside recycling cart and can only be recycled through special programs such as Terracycle or by a contractor. Document shredding was not available at the event, but document shredding was available for residents on October 21, 2023 at the National Night Out at the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center.
