By  |

THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Woodlands Township invites residents to the opening of the Township’s new pickleball courts on Saturday, July 22, 2023, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Falconwing Park, 5610 Rush Haven Drive. Event highlights will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, demonstrations by local pickleball instructors, program information, open play, concessions and more.

Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in America, with more than 8.9 million players documented in 2022. With a $650,000 investment, authorized by The Woodlands Township Board of Directors, the Township Parks and Recreation Department has overseen the construction of eight dedicated pickleball courts at Falconwing Park, the first of their kind in The Woodlands.

“The Woodlands Township prides itself on staying at the forefront of available amenities and services offered for our residents,” said Township Board of Directors Chairman Dr. Ann K. Snyder. “In response to the growing demand and increased need for pickleball courts in The Woodlands, the Board of Directors is pleased to open the courts to the community.”

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees will have the opportunity to play on the courts using the paddle-up system, learn how to make court reservations and about upcoming programming opportunities, and enjoy demonstrations from instructors regarding specific game variations. Please note, additional parking will be available at the shared lot with The Ridge Community Church and Brighton Academy.

There are 19 tennis courts throughout The Woodlands that include pickleball line overlays totaling 38 pickleball courts (two pickleball courts per one tennis court). In addition, there are five pickleball lined courts at the outdoor multi-use sports court location at Bear Branch Park. These locations, combined with Falconwing’s dedicated courts, total 51 courts for pickleball play in The Woodlands. The new Falconwing dedicated pickleball courts will include nets while other locations are shared spaces and require players to bring their nets.
