Photo Tour of new Fine Arts Education Building at The Woodlands Christian Academy

By  |

The Woodlands Christian Academy’s new Fine Arts Educational Building is now open and is welcoming students this school year, starting today Tuesday, August 13.

The 22,585 square foot, one-story Fine Arts Education Building is named The Benjamin Wells School of the Arts and is the latest addition to the school’s 40-acre campus. Delayed by July rain and Hurricane Beryl, the soon-to-be-completed outdoor amphitheater is placed just behind the new building (with a great view from the band room) and is scheduled to be finished this September 2024.

The new Fine Arts Education Building will now be able to host a variety of fine arts specialties, including theatre, band, choir, dance, and the visual arts.

When you first walk into the building, you won’t be able to miss the 4,225 square foot black box theatre. As the largest black box theatre in the Houston area it has the ability to seat up to 300-400 in a variety of configurations, state-of-the-art technology to support a variety of performances, digital art (LED board), and more. The production Newsie will be the school’s first performance held in the black box theatre in February 2025.

In addition to the black box theatre, the new building has an art studio, a dance studio, a choir hall, a band hall, and multiple spaces for displaying student artwork, dressing rooms, storage areas, and a lobby/reception area. Students will also have the opportunity to take classes on graphic design, animation, and photography.

Julie Ambler, Head of School, shared how wonderful it was to see the smiling children’s faces light up and see the building for the first time at the “open house” on Monday, August 12 during the school’s annual Warrior Nation Night. In September 1993 The Woodlands Christian Academy opened with 150 students and now in 2024 has 860 proud “Warrior” students who picked up their schedules and got to tour campus, along with the new Fine Arts Building, on Monday evening.

Phil Sweger, Director of Fine Arts, came to the school 4 years ago and is excited to see the vision of the new building come to life. Students have had the opportunity to learn and practice fine arts before the grand opening, but now have the opportunity to learn, grow, and truly make their imaginations a reality in the new space. “Our team loves to dream and now our team has a place to execute those dreams,” shared Sweger.

The Woodlands Christian Academy is an independent, Christ-centered college preparatory school that integrates learning with Biblical faith and spiritual growth and challenges students to reach their highest potential – intellectually, creatively, physically, and socially – for the glory of Jesus Christ.
