TWCA Students honor Veterans and hold Concert in new Outdoor Amphitheater

Students across all grades at The Woodlands Christian Academy honored veterans on Thursday, November 21, 2024, after spending intentional time in their research, interviews and hands-on work to prepare.

Student-created commemorations began with an Honor Walk featuring interactive posters that included biography narrations and video interviews. Guests were welcomed throughout the day and received a map to guide them through several areas on campus where student work was on display. The first stop was an honor walk in the campus grove where posters with interactive QR codes were displayed. Guests could listen to narrated bibliographies and veteran video interviews.

In the Micah lobby, freshman students proudly displayed projects in which they were tasked with researching a veteran and then writing lyrics to honor their story that followed a typical military cadence. The students then used AI to generate a voice singing the lyrics along the chosen cadence.

In the new Benjamin Wells School of the Arts band hall, 6th and 7th graders hosted simulated recruiting stations for all six branches of the military. Guests were encouraged to visit each station and ask pertinent questions to the students about their branch’s founding history, mascot and enlistment requirements. Lower school students contributed with life-size, collaborative artwork depicting the uniform each military branch.

7th grader Imisi Amodu reflected on his time working with classmates to create the Air Force recruiting station, “It really grounded our teamwork skills because we had to work together.”

7th grader John Brown added, “It also taught us how important the Air Force is, and all the military is, to our United States.”

The day’s culminating event was an evening concert at TWCA’s stunning new outdoor amphitheater. Students performed to a full house of TWCA community members and veterans in attendance.

Aubrey Vincent, a United States Air Force Veteran who served in Vietnam, was one of patrons of the concert. “The concert was great! We really enjoyed it and appreciate it,” he said.

The entire TWCA community was thankful to learn from and celebrate the men and women who serve our country.
