PREVIEW: Phat Eatery opening in The Woodlands
The Woodlands new and highly anticipated Phat Eatery has arrived! Watch the preview video by Hello Woodlands food writer, Nick Rama, of their friends and family soft opening. Phat Eatery – The Woodlands is set to soft open to the public on Monday, June 24, 2024.
The long awaited opening of Phat Eatery 2nd location in The Woodlands is finally upon us. Many fans of the original Katy Asian Town’s – Malaysian street food restaurant are rejoicing that they no longer have to drive an hour to get the late chef-owner Alex Au-Yeung award winning food.
Chef Alex Au-Yeung, a 2022 James Beard Award semifinalist for the Best Chef – Texas category, had a vision to open a larger location in The Woodlands with an expanded dim sum menu and Chinese-style barbecue (coming soon).
Alex unfortunately passed away in March 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. Alex’s trusted teammates Kevin Lee and Marvin He was mentored by Chef Alex Au-yeung and worked very closely with each other, together Kevin and Marvin have kept his dream and legacy alive by opening The Woodlands and continuing as Phat Eatery’s Director of Operations for both locations. The Woodlands Phat Eatery has so far been all rave reviews on their food, service and atmosphere on many social media platforms.
The new location is 7800 square-feet located at 2290 Buckthorne Place in the Grogan’s Mill Village Center, taking the place of the old Fuddruckers building. The new location has doubled the amount of seating compared to the original Katy eatery (opened 2018), and features an open-concept kitchen, bar and three private dining areas.
The Phat Eatery’s website shares, “Opened in 2018 in Katy Asian Town (23119 Colonial Parkway) by 2022 James Beard Awards Semifinalist Alex Au-Yeung, Phat Eatery has earned an enthusiastic following for its freshly prepared Malaysian street food, relaxed atmosphere and warm hospitality. Influenced by Au-Yeung’s upbringing in Hong Kong, his Malaysian heritage and both culture’s rich histories of borrowing from other culinary traditions, Phat Eatery offers interpretations of regional Southeast Asian specialties. The menu includes Chef’s award-winning beef rendang, curry laksa, nasi lemak, sizzling egg tofu and flaky roti canai in addition to stir-fried noodles, rice and vegetable dishes, house dim sum and seasonal specials.”
