Check-in will begin at 9:00 a.m. CST, with the walk officially starting at 10:00 a.m. The event is expected to bring together hundreds of participants from across the Greater Houston region, all united in the mission of saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide.

The Out of the Darkness Walks are community-based events that raise awareness and provide critical funding for suicide prevention research, education, advocacy, and support for those impacted by suicide. The event at Town Green Park will feature an opening program, a scenic walk route, and meaningful opportunities to honor loved ones lost to suicide, connect with survivors, and show support for individuals struggling with mental health challenges.

Registration for the event is free and open to all ages. Participants are encouraged to form teams, join existing teams, or walk individually while raising funds for AFSP’s lifesaving mission. Walkers who raise at least $150 by November 8 will receive an official Out of the Darkness Walk T-shirt. Those who raise $250 or more will be eligible for an additional gift after the event.

In addition to participation, community members may support the event by volunteering or becoming sponsors. Volunteers play an essential role in both the planning committee and on Walk Day itself. Sponsorship opportunities allow local businesses and organizations to demonstrate their commitment to mental health and community well-being.

“By walking together, we remind those who are struggling that they are not alone, and we honor those we have lost with a shared commitment to preventing suicide, ” said Melinda Riddle, Greater Houston Area Walk Chair. To register, volunteer, or learn more about sponsorship opportunities, visit afsp.org/houston or contact Melinda Riddle at afsphoustonwalk@gmail.com.
