Celebrating all things green! Greenery on MainStreet

By  |

Spring has sprung at MainStreet America and on Saturday, April 29, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Houstonians will experience ways to transform their homes and lives green.  With Pantone’s Color of the Year being the lush and vibrant Greenery, MainStreet America will provide a place of endless inspiration for guests to re-fresh, re-plant, re-organize, re-energize and re-generate their homes featuring seminars and interactive experiences ranging from butterfly gardening to raw juicing to beekeeping to solar energy and a whole lot more.

Re-fresh:  Guests will engage with fresh produce in a whole new way with interactive displays and take-home herb samples offered by local sustainable farm Loam Agronomics and edible gardening firm Edible Earth Resources.  See why fresh and local produce makes a difference in your garden, on the table and in the community.  Sample a variety of olive oils produced in Texas from Texas Olive Oil Company and experience a cooking demonstration on how to use olive oil to freshen up meals.

Re-plant:  Learn how to transform a home garden into a beautiful haven for butterflies with the experts from the Houston Museum of Natural Science Cockrell Butterfly Center.  Guests will help Texas replenish the milkweed population by taking home a tropical milkweed seedling and will also receive a free ticket to visit the Cockrell Butterfly Center at a future date.

Re-organize:  This fresh new year is the perfect time to get organized.  Guests will discover tips and tricks from a professional with N’ Line Organized Design, LLC.  An interactive display on closet and drawer organization will provide guests with the opportunity to learn unique ways to keep their homes organized all year long.

Re-generate:  Guests will learn the ultimate way to go green when they discover how homes can be heated and cooled by the earth with geothermal technology.  Get the buzz about beekeeping with Bee2Bee Honey by getting an up-close look at a real observation hive with bees and discovering homegrown honeycomb.  Learn how to expand your solar footprint in an ever-evolving energy landscape and enter a raffle to win a portable solar powered pack to keep you charged wherever life takes you. Presented by Reliant.

Re-energize: Can’t get out to a forest or favorite garden, then bring green into the home with pops of color.  MainStreet America’s Visual Design Manager will present ways to incorporate green in your home. Slow down the pace a bit and learn how being present in the moment helps with stress.  And, see how eating green can boost energy levels.

For the do-it-your-selfer in the house there’s the Greenery on MainStreet speaker series in the MainStreet America conference room including a presentation on the importance of butterflies in the garden presented by the Cockrell Butterfly Center at 1:00 p.m.  At 1:45 p.m. see how to incorporate green in the home; at 2:30 p.m. learn how to create a wreath using succulent plants; and at 3:15 p.m. find out why farm fresh food really matters.

Special one-day event admission pricing is $10 per person.  MainStreet America members always enjoy free admission to the park.  For a complete listing of activities and seminars visit www.mainstreetamerica.com/greenery.  Or call 281-825-4429.
