Conroe Police investigates Auto Pedestrian Fatality

By  |

On December 7, 2020, at 5:40 a.m., Conroe Police Department Officers were dispatched to the main lanes of IH-45 between S. Loop 336 and Creighton Rd, in reference to a major crash involving a pedestrian.

Officers arrived moments later and learned that a total of four cars and a female pedestrian were involved. One of the vehicles involved was a marked MCSO patrol Tahoe. The female pedestrian was deceased upon arrival and no other injuries were reported from the scene.

The initial scene investigation of CPD Crash Investigators revealed that a white female was walking south on the IH-45 main lanes wearing a black hoodie and black jeans. The female, identified as 26- year-old Amy Abercrombie of Conroe, was walking southbound in a moving lane of traffic with her back to approaching vehicles. A pick-up truck that had just entered the freeway swerved to avoid the female. Another truck following the first truck was unable to avoid the female. A chain reaction occurred and an MCSO Deputy struck both vehicles. The impact from the collision caused the front left tire of the marked patrol car to come loose, which then struck a fourth vehicle.

Approximately 25 minutes before the crash, Conroe Police Department Officers were dispatched to the HCA Hospital emergency room area where a female was said to be walking in front of cars. The description of the female closely matched that of Abercrombie. The crash is still under
investigation.

Chief Christy would like to send his condolences to the family of the deceased and those involved.

If you have any information relevant to the crash investigation please call Conroe PD and reference case #20120236.
