Handel’s Messiah Returns to The Woodlands
THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Woodlands Symphony Orchestra (WSO) proudly announces their 2023 Christmas Concert, Messiah by George Frideric Handel. Collaborating with The Woodlands Chorale, the WSO and choir have curated an abridged version of Messiah with the most exciting arias and choruses including everyone’s favorite, the “Hallelujah” chorus.
The concert features the WSO’s authentic chamber style orchestra, four soloists and a seventy-piece choir. The program is scheduled for December 17, 2023 at 6:00pm at Christ Church Methodist, 6363 Research Forest Drive in The Woodlands. Advance discount tickets may be purchased exclusively through Eventbrite (messiahtix.eventbrite.com), and tickets will be available at the door.
The Woodlands Symphony’s tradition of performing Handel’s Messiah with the Woodlands Chorale spans a twenty-five-year period with this performance being the first since 2017. Darryl Bayer, Artistic Director of The Woodlands Symphony, felt the time was right to bring this magnificent composition back to the people of The Woodlands area and connected with Mark Marotto, conductor of The Woodlands Chorale to partner. Dr. Marotto will direct the orchestra and choir while Mr. Bayer resumes his role as principal trumpet Handel’s Messiah tells the awe-inspiring story of Jesus of Nazareth’s life, all set to music with the lyrics from various books of the Bible.
Joining the orchestra are four professional opera soloists and Lone Star College faculty. They are: soprano, Jan Cornelius; alto, Karen Rees; tenor, Aaron Vierkant; and bass, Heath Martin. The Woodlands Chorale is made up of the best volunteer and trained singers in the area. The Woodlands Symphony features their all-professional principal players representing each section of the orchestra for this concert.
