The Hivnor Family Scholarship Fund was created in 2016 to benefit students from Willis High School who are participating in varsity athletics, including cheerleading and drill team. This fund represents the Hivnor family’s commitment to students in their community and their strong belief in the importance and value of higher education, especially for student athletes.

Barcenas was a member of the Willis High School Cross Country Team, serving as the team captain in his senior year, and a member of the Track and Field Team where he was the Distance Team Captain. His extra-curricular school activities included DECA, Interact Club, Robotics Team, UIL Speech and Debate Competition, National Honor Society, Leo Club, 4H, and Student Council. Blazing a trail as the first one in his family to go to high school could have been daunting. However, in his essay he said, “Being in cross country would forever change my perspective on goals as the sport opened my eyes to new opportunities and would change my mentality…The sport has helped me grow into a leader and made me realize the potential anyone can have if the work is put in and the right mentality is set.”

Several of his memberships included service to the community, including with the Salvation Army, the Montgomery County Fair Association, local festivals, and local nursing homes. He received several awards in cross country, DECA and 4H.
